playing hooky

Today was another gorgeous, warm, January day, so Kekoa and I played hooky from music class and went to the beach instead. It was perfect there. The only thing that would have made it better is if Scott could have come too.
I knew we made the right decision when I drove up to the parking lot and Kekoa said "Oh wow", as the waves crashed onto Cowell's beach. We both rolled up our pants, kicked off our shoes and felt the warm sand between our toes. Kekoa is such a mellow little guy (knock on wood). He was so content sitting on the sand, playing by himself. He was actually super occupied putting the shovels in the bucket, then dumping them out, then putting them back in. I could actually sit on the sand and watch the waves, but of course I couldn't stop watching my cutie pie having so much fun.
I thought we were going to get attacked by the seagulls at one point. I looked up and they had completely surrounded us! Kekoa and I moved our spot, away from the birds. He helped me carry his bucket to the new spot and then just sat, so contently as I ran back and forth a few times to get all of our stuff. He didn't even make a run for the water!! We chilled in our new spot, listening to the ocean and someone sitting nearby playing the ukulele. It was great.
We did take a walk down to the water together and get our toes wet. He was content with that, thank goodness! We had a lot of fun running from the waves before they would "catch us". Kekoa just loves the beach so much. We were watching this man fly a really cool kite and he commented as he strolled by at how much Kekoa was loving the beach.
We were sad we had to leave, but it was time for dinner. Kekoa helped me clean up all his sand toys and he walked right beside me, across the sand, all the way to the car! I am so lucky to have such a good little boy. It makes it that much more fun to take him places.

Yay sand!

Helping mama move spots...those seagulls are a bit scary! :)

Take the shovels out...

Get these shovels back in the bucket!

Oh, that is so tiring!

The beach is just so much fun!

Running for the water...

Oh wow! Kekoa sees the kite. He also makes his concerned sound because the kite stops flying...
