Out to lunch!

Relaxing at the Mommy Group class.
Wow, today was a day for a merit badge! Kekoa was able to nurse lying down in bed, which meant I could get some sleep this morning, while he nursed. He had kept me up for most of the night, so sleep was so nice!
We woke up and went straight to a Mom Group. I really like going to these groups and making connections with other new moms. All the moms were all going out to lunch after the group meeting. I had not gone anywhere after the groups because of the challenge of nursing, using the nipple shield. Well, Kekoa has gone 2 days now without having to use it (knock on wood), which gives me a sense of freedom.
Kekoa started to get fussy as we started to walk to lunch. I had him in the Moby wrap and one of the moms suggested I just feed him, in the Moby, while walking. Hmmmm, I had fed him at home while he was wrapped up in the Moby and thought, why not? It worked great!! Kekoa was able to get his lunch and then just go right back to sleep, and I was able to go out to lunch too! I have officially earned a merit badge! :)
It was quite hilarious to go out to lunch with at least 8 other moms and 8 other new babies! Talk about making an entrance!

5 weeks old!

I can't believe Kekoa is already 5 weeks old. He is becoming more and more alert everyday. This morning he was lying in bed and was moving his head back and forth...his neck gets stronger and stronger! He loves being outside and enjoys going for walks in his stroller. He is
starting to smile too, it is so cute.

Check out my moving arms and I have now discovered my tongue!

I made a quiche!!

OMG...I can't believe I actually had time to cook today, let alone make a quiche! My goal today was to make a quiche for dinner and mission accomplished. I've been trying to make this quiche now for over a week.
I chopped the ham, mushrooms, and spinach, grated the cheese, and whisked the eggs. Scott helped me prep the pie crust (I bought frozen pie crust from Trader Joe's...I'm not that amazing to actually make pie crust! :) Not only is the quiche in the oven, but I cleaned my mess in the kitchen too...all dishes done and counter tops cleaned!! This is HUGE. Thank you Kekoa for finally taking a long nap today!
Now the trick is to see if we can actually eat the quiche while it is still hot!! I will definitely have a picture of the quiche....when it is done! :)

Super Dad!

Scott is the most amazing dad and husband. If you know Scott, you know he would be the best dad and husband, but he just amazes me every day! This weekend he had time to give Kekoa a bath and they were both loving it. Because Kekoa is getting chubbier by the minute, it is much more fun to give him a bath now. He can hold himself up in the tub and it is just so cute. His big chubby belly pooches out and he loves the warm water!
Scott also went to farmer's market, did laundry, did the dishes, and cleaned the apartment...which just doesn't seem to get done when I am home with Kekoa during the week! We definitely miss him during the week, when he is at work!! Kekoa and I are both so lucky!

A month of change...

Wow, look at how much Kekoa has changed...

4 days before birth....

In labor, look at how much my tummy dropped!
1 day old...
4 days old.
6 days old.
1 week old with my family.

1 week, look at my belly button still attached.
2 weeks old.

19 days old.

3 weeks old.

1 month old.

33 days old. This is how I gaze at my mommy when I'm in my moby and not ready for sleep!
Look at how my chin and cheeks have grown. I'm out on the creek trail with mom!

Every day there is something special that happens. Tuesday we went for a walk for the first time on the creek trail! This is huge, considering just a few days ago we could just go around the block! Kekoa's pediatrician asked if being a mommy was getting easier. I replied that it isn't so much that it is easier as you get used to you life in a constant state of change. Scott and I never know what will happen between each time I nurse Kekoa! Sometimes he just sleeps, other times he won't go to sleep (like on Tuesday), which makes it tough. Today is another sleepy morning for our little baby!

The best day!

Aaaah, peacefully asleep!
I had the best day with Kekoa so far. He was so wonderful today. I think it was to make up for the fact that yesterday was SO challenging. He fell asleep on his own today, without the Moby! He was eating good, wasn't spitting up every 2 seconds and we even made it to a New Mommy class with ease! I usually run around like a chicken with my head cut off whenever we have to leave the house. I'm learning what we really need to bring with us. He is starting to get a little personality and was being very silly while on his changing table. He gets this little smirk on his face, not quite a smile yet. It was such a great day!

I have been having a very challenging time breast feeding. Kekoa needs to have this thing called a shield to latch on. It is a piece of silicon to make it easier for him to latch. We've all been working very hard to have him stop using it. Scott looks up info on line and I've seen a few lactation consultants about it. Well, today, I feel like we have had a major break through...Kekoa was latching without the shield for most of the day! Yahoo!! It was a great day!! Now Scott and I are crossing our fingers that the evening is as enjoyable and relaxing!

The cutest sounds...

My first time putting myself to sleep is today!! A HUGE day in my life!! Mommy is ecstatic!

1 month old!

Chilling with my friends!
Our 9.7 pound baby boy!
21.5 inches long!
Look at my crazy hair! It just grows like this, no styling products!
Mommy's shoulder is just such a peaceful place!

Kekoa is growing so fast! At his doctor's check-up today he weighed in at 9 pounds 7 ounces and measured in at 21.5 inches! Wow, just 13 days ago Kekoa weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces, so he is gaining fast. He has outgrown his newborn pajamas and is now wearing 0-3 months pj's. All those hours of nursing have all been worth it. It is such an amazing feeling to know I am responsible for my feeding my son and that I am successful at it...it is very fulfilling!
My little baby changes so much every day. He is starting to make little cooing sounds, it is so cute! I heard him making noises at his mobile today! I feel so fortunate to be able to stay at home with Kekoa this year.

Super Mom!

My one month old little boy!!
Look at those cheeks! This is one of my favorite pictures of Kekoa! He is sleeping on daddy's chest!

I was super mom today!! Kekoa had his 1 month doctor's check-up in Fremont and we actually made it there on time. It is really amazing how long it takes to get out of the house now with a little baby. This was our first time making it out of the house without Scott...I'm so proud of us! We really miss having daddy with us!
Kekoa was just so good this morning...he chilled in his crib, checking out his favorite mobile, long enough for me to take a shower and pack up the car. Simply amazing.
We did have two diaper changes in the car, before I was able to put him in the car seat, but still made it on time to Fremont! Kekoa even fell asleep in his car seat...no tears! Scott is so proud of us too!

Stress to bliss...

Thursday was a ROUGH day for Kekoa and I! Whew, it was a long day of fussing and trying to figure out what was wrong. The day started out stressful. We were going to stay at my dad's house so we had to have all our stuff packed, the car packed, Kekoa fed, and be out the door by 6:30ish a.m. so Scott could get to the hospital on time!! Kekoa was cooperative during this morning time and slept after his morning feeding, so Scott and I could get everything ready.
We were off to Fremont and made it to the hospital parking lot, just in time for me to nurse again. After Kekoa nursed is when things went downhill. On the 5 minute drive to Papa Beezy's house, Kekoa was having a fit in the back seat, crying and screaming. He does not like the car seat at all. It made the 5 minute car ride seem like an eternity.
The rest of the day seemed to follow this pattern, nurse and then major fussing. It was like he took on a completely new personality for the day! It didn't help that we actually had another outing in the morning. We were going to a mommy class, that ended up being cancelled! It was a hot day and Kekoa wasn't the only one being fussy, Kaiwei was having a rough day too.
By Thurday evening, the lack of naps caught up with Kekoa and he finally slept. Yahoo!
Friday was a completely new day...so wonderful and pleasant! Kekoa was back to his old self. I took Kekoa for a walk in the morning in the moby, he was looking all around and finally put himself to sleep. He enjoyed tummy time and was so much more relaxed...no fussing!
Everyday is just so new, I never know what to expect. Even with the fussing, Kekoa is just so cute.

Tummy time is so fun!! I think I want to crawl!

The boys...

All these little boys running around. Jordan is going to be the ring leader, with Kaiwei and Kekoa following behind. Kaiwei and Jordan are so cute together!

Uncle Scott is the best!! All the little ones love Uncle Scott!

Jordan and Kaiwei are having so much fun together!

Kaiwei's first birthday!

Saturday, Sept. 12th was Kaiwei's first birthday! We all went over to my dad's house for yummy food and great company. Kaiwei had his first dessert and loved his chocolate cake. He fed himself for the first time and ended up with more cake and frosting on his body than in his mouth. Jenny had to give him a bath afterwards!

Kaiwei's first dessert...birthday cake!
