ano nuevo elephant seals

We couldn't of picked a better day to head to the coast, beautiful and clear and so appreciated after all the rain we have been having.  Both Scott and I have been so excited to take Kekoa out to Ano Nuevo to see the elephant seals.  If you have never been, I highly recommend it.

The day didn't start out so wonderful, both Kekoa and Scott needed little time outs! :)  But after the bumpy morning, everything was fine.  It is quite a walk out to see the seals.  Malia was in the carrier and Kekoa walked some and rode a lot on Scott's shoulders.  Malia was awesome, she slept for almost the whole tour ( I was so worried she would wake up and want to nurse).
Kekoa did awesome too.  Once we got past the morning grumpiness, he was a trooper, no complaining from him.  He had a lot of fun, looking for sticks and we even saw a banana slug on the way out to the seals.

The elephant seal breeding season isn't crazy yet, but we were able to see a couple of males fight, a pup nursing, and plenty of elephant seals.  I was just so happy it wasn't rainy or too cold.  A great way to end our year together.

Notice how Scott is carrying Kekoa?  The hike didn't start off so great, but definitely got better. :)

Right before she fell asleep.

Kekoa was SO tired.
The little black blob is a pup, nursing.

7 months

Dear Malia Belle,

Happy 7 months old little girl!  What can I say...we are all totally smitten with you little one.  You have captured all of our hearts with your chubby chubby cheeks and heart melting smile.  Each morning, when you wake up, the first person you really want to see is your Ge Ge.  You are happy to see me or Baba too, but all you do is turn your head until you see Kekoa, then your whole face lights up.  You absolutely adore him, just watch him completely mesmerized.

You have fully dived into the world of eating this past month...I'm crossing my fingers, but I think I have another adventurous eater.  So far you have loved everything but some days you just don't feel like eating much, just a nibble.  You are slowly getting the hang of this swallowing food thing and it is so funny to watch you manipulate the food with your tongue.  You are such a messy eater, there is food everywhere when you are done.  You love to grab the spoon, spit the food, get your hands all in the food and then rub your face.  I have to roll your sleeves up and wish it were warmer so you could just eat without any clothes on at all.  So far you have tried roasted pear with banana (this is so good that we all love it too), zucchini, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, avocado, eat your greens puree, and homemade brown rice cereal.  I can't wait to make you more food, it is so fun!

You are a master at sitting up.  You love to play with your soft blocks.  You'll reach way out to grab the one you want and then bounce right back up to sitting.  Tonight you actually sat up in the tub and took a bath without your whale tub, for the first time.  I'm not sure who was more excited, you or Ge Ge.  It was pretty adorable to see you, so small, sitting in the big tub!  You are not so keen on being on the floor, actually unless you are in the mood, you'll fuss until you can be sitting again.  You just love to be up and looking around.  You will scoot though, if we give you something to push off of.  I'll be surprised if you start crawling any time soon though....I'm not complaining at all! :)

Speaking of being in the bath tub.  You have started to get mad when you don't get something you want.  In the tub you started crying because I didn't give you a wash cloth to suck on.  I think it is what you look forward to most when taking a bath, sucking on wash cloth, you try to put the whole thing in your mouth.

You are starting to sleep better.  I feel like each time I say this, then your sleep becomes awful.  Your bedtime is usually around 6:30pm, sometimes earlier, depending on how long you napped for in the afternoon. You love, love, love your moses basket, actually try to dive bomb into it when you are tired.  There have been a couple of nights you went 8 hours between nursing...that is pretty good.  I also feel like you are starting to have more of a nap schedule, you are putting yourself on one!  You take a 1 hour to 2 hour nap in the morning, a couple of hours after you wake up (between 7am-8am) and then another nap in the afternoon for 1 hour to 2 hours, usually around 1:30 you'll go down.  This will probably all change tomorrow, but for now it is nice.  You were getting up around 5:30 or 6:00 am and that just wasn't going to work.  If I don't go in your room, you will usually go back to sleep on your own.  If not, I nurse you and then you fall back asleep for awhile, thank goodness!

Even though you are eating solids, you are still nursing like a champ, about every 3 hours during the day.  You are still a drama queen before you latch on, I have got to get it on video!

Some other fun things you have started doing this month...
-drink out if sippy cup
- if baba asks where mama is, you at me
-have become a mama's girl, cry if I leave
-can sit in high chair at restaurants
-have been super babbling
-pulling a blanket toward you to get to the toys instead of moving yourself to the toys
-super into playing now, love getting new toys
-love your ABC book, "B is for Bear", it is your favorite

Thank you for being such a super sweet and easy baby.  I love you with all my heart.

love,
your mama

getting ready for bed

Most nights Kekoa stays in the tub while I get Malia into bed.  Tonight he wanted to put on his jammies with his sister.  These two cuties, in their diapers, had so much fun getting ready for bed tonight!

big girl in the bath

Tonight Malia took a bath without her whale tub.  It was her first time sitting up by herself.  I thought she would start dive bombing the water, but she was actually pretty good, just really focused on eating her towel!  Kekoa was super excited to have a bath buddy too.

Such a yummy towel.

Put it in your mouth like this baby sister.

Malia so mad at me because I took the towel away.

Where's Ge Ge?

Malia and Kekoa were so cute tonight.  Kekoa was done eating, so he was entertaining his sister.  She just kept moving her head from left to right, right to left, wondering where he was.

passed out

I took Kekoa and Malia to Happy Hollow yesterday.  We had to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.  It has been raining so much, I've been really feeling like a cooped up, caged up animal.

First thing Kekoa wanted to do was ride all the rides, the cars first, then the swings, and finally the ladybugs.  He had his trusty friend Woody to keep him company on the rides.  Afterwards we checked out the animals in the zoo.  It was starting to get really cold so we headed home.

I was hoping Malia was going to fall asleep while walking around Happy Hollow, but that didn't happen.  She was way too excited.  She did fall asleep in the car on the way home and then slept for 2 hours in her car seat.

Kekoa didn't fall asleep in the car ( I was very surprised) but wanted to relax on the couch after we got home.  I snuggled him on the couch, went to the bathroom, came out 1 minute later and he was passed out!  I let him sleep because I also needed to snooze and figured I would regret it later, which I did.  He didn't fall asleep until almost 10:00!! I wish he could take a little nap in the day and still fall asleep at a descent hour, but it just doesn't work that way.

Christmas at Po Po's

We went over to my mom's for Christmas with the grandkids...more food, more presents.  Kekoa was very excited to play with his cousin Jordan, and Meilani was so excited to hold her cousin Malia. :)

On the way home, we drove by all the Christmas lights again...went through a different neighborhood.  I just love how exciting Christmas lights are for Kekoa, it is awesome.

Malia just wanted mama to hold her the whole time!
