My baby loves green peas!!

Kekoa is on food "tastes" number 3...organic green peas. I was skeptical that he would enjoy eating green peas since I have heard from so many other moms that their babies didn't like peas at all...would even gag!
I woke up this morning and zapped some frozen peas in the microwave. I am having fun making Kekoa's baby food. I figure since I am home with him, I don't really have an excuse to not make fresh food. I whirled the peas in the food processor and added some breast milk to thin it out. Because I figured he wouldn't like the peas, I thought would be throwing out the bright green mixture. After mixing the peas and milk, my first thought was, "Wow, these peas don't look like the peas in baby food jars. It is vibrant green." My second thought, after dipping my finger in the bowl for a taste was, "Hmmm, he may like this. It is pretty sweet."
Scott sat down with Kekoa and gave him his first taste. Not only did he not gag or spit it up, he wanted more...all this is happening while Kekoa has the hiccups! I'm so excited Kekoa likes veggies, well at least he does today. Let's see what happens tomorrow morning!

My baby food making mess...
Vibrant green peas ready for tomorrow!

Daddy putting my bib on...I'm ready! What's this new green food?
Hmmm, I'm not sure!
Ok, give me more. I'll even help get the spoon into my mouth!
Yummy!

My new sippy cup and a new sound!

Kekoa's pediatrician said he should start practicing with a sippy cup. Well, Kekoa couldn't wait. When I brought out the sippy cup today, he was lunging for it...couldn't wait to get his hands on it! I put a little water in it and he was even able to get some of it out! Our boy is growing up so fast!
Mmm...tastes good!

I want that sippy cup! Reaching...
Reaching...
Got it!
Sharing with daddy!

Kekoa has a new sound! He hasn't made a new sound in awhile, so it is quite exciting. It is such a cute little sound...don't you think?

I'm so strong!

Kekoa was blowing me away today. He was fully bending over to reach for his books on the couch and then picking them back up. This is a new thing as of today! I then put him onto the floor and on his tummy to reach for the books...he tried so hard to reach and began to scooch back. Our baby will be crawling in no time! Yikes!
Daddy is so funny!

Auntie Riquesha and Oriana are here to stay!

My dear friend Riquesha has been living in New York and has now moved back to the area! Yay! Riquesha and I have been friends since 1st grade!! I haven't seen her daughter, Oriana, since she was 1...she is now 2! Kekoa loved having them visit, had so much fun with Ori. She was making him laugh by being her silly self.
We are so happy they are close now, we can have playdates all the time! :)

Ori has just woken up from a nap. She is not quite awake yet in this picture and feeling a little shy.
Mmmm, cookies. Ori was so cute as she untwisted the cookie and licked the cream from the inside!

Our two cuties!

Where's Kekoa?

Kekoa was in such a great mood this evening. He gets really happy when we have visitors like we did today. When I finished reading his bedtime story to him, I let him play with the book. He kept putting the book over his face and I would say, "Kekoa? Where's Kekoa?", then he would move the book, I would say, "Oh, there you are!" He thought this was the funniest thing ever! I finally took the book away to get ready for bedtime. He wasn't happy without this until he discovered he could do the same thing with his little blue blanket. Kekoa is hilarious...so cute!

Signs of Spring

The first sign of Spring to me is seeing the first California poppies. These little orange flowers remind me of sunshine and that Spring is on its way. I am working on my New Year's Resolution of running a half-marathon. I'm registered for the Santa Cruz Half in April. Yesterday was my long run for the week, 8 miles, which I completed with no problem (yay me!) I'm not even sore today!

Anyways, as I was running through Vasona Park, the site of some orange bursts of color, along the trail, surprised me. Just a few days ago, I went for a run with Kekoa, there weren't any flowers in bloom. California poppies are so beautiful and add so much to the drab, winter landscape. The best is when they are blooming in full force and blanket everything bright orange. It was a gorgeous, warm day yesterday....perfect for a long run. I can't wait for all the other Spring flowers to start blooming!

Love for mama...

Kekoa is our snuggle bunny. He also loves to grab our faces and he has a strong grip. Here he is, just before his hand lands on my nose...Ouch!
He also loves to give kisses. It melts my heart. The past couple of nights he has been putting his hands on my face and kisses my cheeks and then moves to my lips. Soooo sweet!

6 month doctor visit and trying to crawl!

Sitting up like a big boy at my appointment!Look at how my hands are folded (and that my ears are like my mama's)! So cute.
Kekoa had his 6 month doctor's appointment today. He was having a ball in the room while we waited for the doctor! Watch how he gets his Sophie toy to squeak and the funny face he is making. Our chubby baby is now 17 pounds and 27 inches long. He is in the 50th percentile for
weight and 70th percentile for height! Apparently, it is time for a new car seat...oh no! The doctor also couldn't believe how strong Kekoa is. She kept commenting, "Wow, he is so strong." as he stood up for her (supported), sat up, bended over and brought himself back up and then the big finale... scooted on his stomach. Kekoa was a big hit at the doctor's. All the nurses had to come see our cutie baby!

Crawling? Well, not really, but Kekoa had his first attempt today. I couldn't believe my eyes today at the doctor's office...Kekoa was on his stomach, shot his booty in the air and scooted his whole body back, twice...he was moving! I started to tear up seeing my little baby "on the move"!

Please enjoy my videos! :)

Check out our little guy...he uses his feet to bring his mirror closer so he can play with it...what a smartie pants!

Chubby belly!

Kekoa has figured out how to take his napping head cover off. :)

Hear me roar!

Guess how much I love you?

Our little baby is a reader! Kekoa loves all his books. Here he is reading one of his faves, "Guess How Much I Love You". Scott was able to snap some super cute pictures of him in action! WeI used to read this book to him when he was in my belly. Hmmm, such a good story.
I'm getting hungry, I wonder what the book would taste like.
Not so good...
Yuck!
Say cheese!
Aahh, great story, I highly recommend it!

Fun photos

Mmmmmm, daddy's pants taste so delicious!

Not so sure about butternut squash!

Kekoa has moved on from avocado (which he likes) to trying his first taste of butternut squash today. He ended up with it all over his face, nose, hands....it is less pasty and gooey than avocado, a lot more runny.
Tomorrow morning I'm going to blend it better in a food processor and see if it will go down a little easier. He seemed to like it though, kept opening his mouth for more!

Kekoa is helping me here, shoving the spoon into his mouth! :)
I don't know about this mama!
Mmmm, not so bad! :)

More 6 month photos

Can you believe our little boy is already 6 months old? We can't! Every day our little Bam Bam surprises with us with how much he is growing and changing. He learns new things constantly. They say babies are like sponges, absorbing and learning everything around them and it is so true!
Kekoa can sit up really well now on his own and even plays with his toys while sitting up. When he is on his back, he has learned to curl up his legs and use his feet to help him play with toys! He just loves all his toys and anything that makes noise, like a rattle, he will swing in his arm and just laugh! He has gotten so good with using his hands too and can easily move toys from one hand to the other. We are lucky that he is able to play for awhile by himself.

He loves being read to and just this morning I saw him staring at the words in the book, Where is Spot?, trying to figure out what they were! He also really tries to talk to us and loves growling and when I growl back. We end up having a growling contest which ends up with both of us cracking up!
He now reaches his arms up to me when he wants to be held. It melts my heart every time. Friday night, when I came home he was on the couch and squealed with delight when he saw me, as he outstretched his chubby arms. I woke up to him this morning, staring at me. He had his soft, pudgy hands on each of my cheeks...so precious!
Kekoa really wants to be mobile. He tries to pull himself up when he is laying on his back, like he is trying to do a sit-up! It is only a matter of time that we will have a little baby crawling all over our apartment. My dad keeps telling us to baby proof and we keep putting it off!
Kekoa still isn't sleeping through the night, so we are just a little bit tired! :) He is a tough baby to get to sleep. I really can't complain though, since he is so easy otherwise. To get him to sleep, right now, he has to be bounced in a baby carrier. It has it advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that we can be mobile, we don't have to be at home for his naps. The disadvantages are that we don't get much done since one of us has to "wear" him.
Scott and I are having fun with our precious baby boy and savoring all the moments with him.
Kekoa loves Lulu the giraffe. I give him Lulu to play with in the mornings, while we are laying in bed. He likes to grab her, pull her to his face, and growl at her.
Hi Lulu!

I'll help hold the sign mommy!

But I really want to eat it! Yum!
With my buddy Gorilla!
Oh look, the sign again!

Holding hands with Gorilla! :)
