running laps

Kekoa was hilarious tonight. He took SO long to eat dinner that we didn't have time to get outside to burn off that after dinner energy. He did tell me he had to pee on the potty (yay) and then told me "mama, I need to run." And run he did, for about 30 minutes, around and around and around. He was moving so fast, my big 'ol preggo body couldn't even keep up with him!
When I finally got him to calm down and get on his pj's, his heart was racing from all the running.

Bachman Park

We haven't been to Bachman Park since we moved. When he woke up from his nap, Kekoa told me he wanted to go to the park with the sandbox. I miss this park, it is the best when it is hot, so nice and shady. Kekoa grew up in this park, so it was amazing to see him playing there now. He can climb up all the equipment himself and looks so huge in the swing. I remember when he couldn't even stand in the sandbox by himself and now he has the best imagination and plays with all the toys.
My little boy is getting so big.

One of Kekoa's new tricks is going head first down slides.

farmer's market Sunday

Most Sunday mornings we head to farmer's market. We are so lucky because it is such a close walk, only 3 blocks away. Kekoa was feeling like a cool guy this morning and insisted on wearing his sunglasses. He looked so cute.
After farmer's market, we stopped at the park and played for a bit. It was really too hot to play too long...good thing Kekoa had his sunglasses to keep that scorching sun out of his eyes!

enjoy the moment

What a different afternoon today was. Yesterday was one of the hardest days with Kekoa, by far. He was so overtired from not getting enough sleep the night before and then having visitors. He wouldn't take a nap, so I told him we were going for a drive, knowing he would fall asleep in the car. I never thought he would sleep in the car, ever, but nowadays when he is exhausted (aka, not taken a nap), he falls right asleep. He threw the biggest tantrum EVER because he didn't want to wear a diaper. He kept screaming, "no diaper". I had to wrestle with him to halfway get it on, strap him into the car seat, and drive. He cried and cried and cried. After about 20 minutes of screaming and crying "no diaper" he finally passed out. I drove around in the AC for another 20 minutes and headed home, thinking I could transfer him from car to bed. Big mistake, huge mistake, not sure why I thought I would want to move a perfectly sleeping, silent toddler. Of course he woke up, and immediately started screaming, "no diaper" for about an hour! I was almost in tears. It was awful. Then he just stopped and was fine for the rest of the afternoon.

Today, completely different. He took a nap and woke up in the best mood. It was fantastic. He told me when he woke up that he had seen monsters in his room. This explains why he was making funny noises (trying to scare them away) and slept with his face buried into his pillow ( so he wouldn't see them). We played stuffed animals for awhile and when I asked him if he wanted to go to the park, he told me he wanted to play at home. I wasn't too excited about being at home, since it was such a nice day. I tried everything to get him to go, but he really didn't want to. He told me "not a nice day mama, a hot day!"
I am so glad we didn't rush off to the park. We played in the shade of our wonderful backyard. It was such a mellow and relaxing afternoon. Kekoa enjoyed his water table, took a long snack break at his picnic table, and we played "catch" for a long time (I was tossing the ball across the yard and he would run after it. I was trying to get Kekoa to run as much as possible!). It was one of those times when I was really just enjoying the now, enjoying the moment, enjoying my son who is too cute for words right now.

smell the roses

SO bummed I didn't have my camera with me this afternoon to capture Kekoa smelling the roses. After throwing the worst tantrum of his life ( he was so over tired), I'm glad that our afternoon ended on a really positive note.
His favorite "motorcycle park" has a beautiful rose garden. We were playing on the playground and I asked him if he wanted to show me where the roses were. Scott had brought him here earlier in the week and told Kekoa to take mama to see the roses. Kekoa was an excellent tour guide. He first took me through the grape vines, telling me that he walked through them with baba too. Then off to the roses....so many gorgeous colors and the air just smells sweet. Kekoa grabs the huge blooms with two hands, one on each side and puts the whole thing in his nose. Then he gets the silliest smile on his face and is so excited as he says, "mmmmmm", because they smell so sweet. He also pointed out all the colors for me, reds, pinks, yellows, whites, and purples...in all different shades.
After smelling all the different roses, Kekoa found the perfect tree for him to climb. He was so proud of himself.
Next time we go to the park, definitely bringing my camera. I am crossing my fingers that I can get a picture of him smelling the blooms. It is the cutest.

still love my trucks

I love that Kekoa rediscovers his toys and plays with them in a whole new way. These trucks were under his bed and he has pulled them all out. He now uses the couch as a play area, climbing all over it with his trucks.
I was loving listening to him play as I cooked dinner tonight. When I pulled out the camera, he said, "please, mama, no pictures." :)

look who came to visit....

Yay, Delilah was in town for the weekend! She came down to visit with her mama, Auntie JoAnna, Minolo, and his mama, Auntie Michelle. We haven't seen them since I was first pregnant, when I had morning sickness SO bad and now I am the big belly lady!
It was SO great to spend the afternoon with them. Can't wait to see them again in July...when they get to meet our baby girl!

Hard to believe I have know these ladies for almost 20 years!! Time flies!

food festival

Delicious food, music, and tons of cutie kids running around...we couldn't of asked for a better evening. It was a food truck festival, all different kinds of food from Mexican to Thai to lobster rolls. I saw lobster rolls and was sold immediately....mmmmmm good. For a drink, I saw the cantaloupe agua fresca and had to get one. I let Kekoa try it and he was sold too, couldn't stop sipping the sweet yummy beverage through the straw. Scott had a delicious shrimp sandwich and icy cold beers. Kekoa enjoyed a hot dog with tons of ketchup. He had ketchup everywhere. I wanted to try some other food, but the lines started to get crazy long. There was supposed to be a cupcake truck there, but it never came. :( By the time I was ready for dessert, blueberry cobbler, the line for the truck was SUPER DUPER long, so I had to pass. I hope there is another food truck festival soon.
Kekoa's favorite part of the evening was listening to music and running up an down this little ramp. He ran up and down for almost an hour.....hoping this tires him out for bed!

Oh no, ketchup hand.

This is Kekoa's, I want more cantaloupe drink please!

morning hike

What a wonderful morning we had, hiking on a new trail. There is just something rejuvenating for the soul to hike someplace new. The views were so gorgeous and it was so peaceful. Every time we do this, Scott and I always say how we need to go more often...finding the time is another thing.

letters and numbers

Kekoa's recognition of numbers and letters has just taken off. Each day he points out a new number or letter. He gets so excited when he sees them on houses or car license plates or signs. For numbers, he associates them with the different Thomas train characters..."look mama, Thomas number "(which is #1) or "that number 4, Gordan number". It is pretty amazing.

His favorite letter is "B". He always points out the "B", everywhere. I got him some letter/number bath toys, which have been a huge hit. The other day he randomly picked up "h" and said, "H is for horse"...wow! I was blown away. Scott had him spelling in the tub too, "cow" and "why". It was very cute, when Scott asked him, "how to you spell why Kekoa?", Kekoa replied, "W-H-Y"!

music class

Oh how we love Music Together. Each Thursday afternoon, since Kekoa has been 8 months old, we have had music with Miss Elizabeth. It is truly amazing to see how much Kekoa has grown musically. He is a little dancing, music machine, always singing or humming a tune. I think this his favorite Music Together collection of songs right now. I love hearing him sing them as I drive and he requests his favorites all the time. Not only is he singing songs from Music Together, but he sings all the tunes he has learned in preschool and during library story time too. His favorite is "slippery fish", oh it is the cutest thing to watch him sing it. His favorite verse is the tuna fish, he loves making his hands move like the tuna fish. He also loves to sing "Bingo" over and over again.
This may be our last music class for a while. I know we won't be going this summer, like we usually do. With the baby coming and Kekoa will be taking swim lessons, we will be taking a break from music class. I got some cute pictures of him today.

My lap is getting smaller and smaller as my belly gets bigger and bigger! Kekoa manages to find some space though! :) He brought DiDi with him today. DiDi was a huge hit with the other kids and even waved good-bye to everyone too!

Part of music class is putting away the fun musical props when we are done. Kekoa loves to help and put things away. I love it when he runs back to my lap with a big 'ol smile on his face, arms outstretched, ready for a hug.

Kekoa singing the good-bye song. It is the first time he has sung the song in class...very cute.

After music class, Kekoa loves to run around outside. We used to head over to the library and run around, but he is just as happy playing and running amongst the dirt, leaves, and bicycle racks! Today none of his little friends were there, so he asked me "mama, you want to run around wit me?", in his sweet little voice...how could I resist? I had a lot of fun chasing him around.

Mama, I want to climb the tree!
So, we pretended to climb up and look down at the ground from way up in the tree.
