What a different afternoon today was. Yesterday was one of the hardest days with Kekoa, by far. He was so overtired from not getting enough sleep the night before and then having visitors. He wouldn't take a nap, so I told him we were going for a drive, knowing he would fall asleep in the car. I never thought he would sleep in the car, ever, but nowadays when he is exhausted (aka, not taken a nap), he falls right asleep. He threw the biggest tantrum EVER because he didn't want to wear a diaper. He kept screaming, "no diaper". I had to wrestle with him to halfway get it on, strap him into the car seat, and drive. He cried and cried and cried. After about 20 minutes of screaming and crying "no diaper" he finally passed out. I drove around in the AC for another 20 minutes and headed home, thinking I could transfer him from car to bed. Big mistake, huge mistake, not sure why I thought I would want to move a perfectly sleeping, silent toddler. Of course he woke up, and immediately started screaming, "no diaper" for about an hour! I was almost in tears. It was awful. Then he just stopped and was fine for the rest of the afternoon.
Today, completely different. He took a nap and woke up in the best mood. It was fantastic. He told me when he woke up that he had seen monsters in his room. This explains why he was making funny noises (trying to scare them away) and slept with his face buried into his pillow ( so he wouldn't see them). We played stuffed animals for awhile and when I asked him if he wanted to go to the park, he told me he wanted to play at home. I wasn't too excited about being at home, since it was such a nice day. I tried everything to get him to go, but he really didn't want to. He told me "not a nice day mama, a hot day!"
I am so glad we didn't rush off to the park. We played in the shade of our wonderful backyard. It was such a mellow and relaxing afternoon. Kekoa enjoyed his water table, took a long snack break at his picnic table, and we played "catch" for a long time (I was tossing the ball across the yard and he would run after it. I was trying to get Kekoa to run as much as possible!). It was one of those times when I was really just enjoying the now, enjoying the moment, enjoying my son who is too cute for words right now.
