Those kind of mornings

Sometimes the best mornings are the ones where we do nothing at all. This morning was one of those kind of mornings. Kekoa woke up around 5:00 a.m. with a fever, so uncomfortable. I gave him some Tylenol, we changed his diaper and into some cooler cotton pj's. He fell right back asleep, but had to be sleeping right on my chest. He slept for 4 more hours!
He woke up again around 9:00 and we just laid in bed, snuggling, resting, and waking up slow, until around 10:00!

We finally got out of bed. He was feeling much better and we all started playing cars, all of us...me, Scott, and Kekoa. Kekoa was being the cutest, making sounds, driving his cars all over. He was so happy to have us both home and playing together.
After brunch, Kekoa was tired. He came to get me in the kitchen telling me he wanted me, saying "mama mama". I picked him up and started slow dancing with him. He rested his head on my shoulder and started to relax as we swayed to the music of Slightly Stoopid (I know, funny name , but great music). Scott is so smart, went and got the bed ready and then asked Kekoa if it was nap time. Kekoa jumped into his arms...sweet dreams Kekoa. Thank you for such a wonderful morning.

Try it baba, you'll like it.

This morning Kekoa is trying to scoop up the rainbow on the rug!

It never ceases to amaze me how much Kekoa LOVES books. He is reading here to baba, one of his favorite Richard Scarry books, "Cars and Trucks and Things That Go"

Kekoa just woke up...he is looking for "car car"

Early morning dancing...

Cleaning up. Check out his little lip when he makes his car sounds.

Kekoa never ceases to impress me. There is a page in one of his books of a fall scene, leaves falling. When we get to this page, we sing one of the songs from music class, "leaves are falling, gently falling, falling to the ground". I've been leaving out the word "ground" and Kekoa fills in and says ground, with a huge grin on his face, and makes his hands fall like the leaves! It is awesome.
(Just a disclaimer...don't judge me on my singing. Miss Elizabeth, our music teacher, has informed me that even if I sing off key, Kekoa can still learn to sing in tune! )

Kekoa is playing the "no no no" game, where he pretends he's going to throw something off the highchair. We say "no no no" and he thinks this is really funny. Then I ask him what he's eating and he pushes the pear to the front of his mouth to show me. Pear is "Li" in Chinese. He has also been copying everything we do. I coughed and then he copies me and coughs. So cute.

Pretend

Kekoa is all about playing make believe right now. It is awesome to see him using his imagination. Last night in the tub, we had a bubble bath. He had his little "bubble shovel" and would scoop up the bubbles and then we would pretend to gobble them up. He was so cute, making the sound of eating, but not slurping any of the the bubbles into his mouth.
He also like to pretend to eat tanbark at the park. He makes tanbark pies and shares them with me. :)
It will be exciting to see how his imagination grows.

Little helper

Kekoa loves to help. One of his favorite things to do is put his dirty clothes in the hamper! How cute is his little tush? First the clothes go in the hamper and then bath time! :)

3 words

I don't want to forget. Tonight was the first time Kekoa strung three words together! He was in his highchair, finishing his dinner. I asked him if he was ready for his bath and he said, "mama bubbles wawa"! Oh my! I can't believe it...what a smartie pants!

Villa Montalvo

Scott had the day off today. It was so wonderful to have him home. He got up with Kekoa this morning so I could sleep in. I actually slept until 9:30...really late for me. It felt great. We were going to go to the beach, but Kekoa got up a little late from his nap. We wanted to do something different and headed down the road to a beautiful villa.
There are hiking trails and the grounds are just gorgeous. Kekoa couldn't wait to hit the trails and find all the muddy spots, of course! We hiked a little bit, then turned back around on the trail to explore the grounds of the villa. It is so pretty, I can't believe we have never been here before. It is super close to us and it is free! It will be pretty to come back when the flowers are blooming and when it is a bit warmer!

Look what I found mama!
" Da gwun gwun" (Big sticks)!
Ooooh, let's go up the trail!

Splash splash!

So much "wa wa", so little time!

We were going to keep exploring into the garden but didn't get any further than this gate. We hung out here for awhile, opening and closing this beautiful black gate!

The villa...
How cute is Kekoa's face? He is making sound effects for the gate closing!

A giant blue egg! Kekoa actually spotted this on our way out and said "dan" (egg in Chinese).

El Quito Park

This afternoon, Kekoa and I had to get out into the sunshine. We headed out to a new park, for us, El Quito, in Saratoga. It was OK, not a favorite. I think it may have been because there were so many bigger kids there. School was out today. There weren't any kids Kekoa's age there and he just wanted to follow this one really obnoxious boy around, who wasn't very nice. I'm sure the park would be a lot more fun with some friends. It was nice to be outside after so many days of rain. The best part of the park visit was actually sitting on the bench with Kekoa. He snuggled right up next to me, at some of his snack, as we both people watched. There is actually a community garden there. I was so excited about it, thought maybe I could look into renting a little plot to garden. Unfortunately it is a too expensive, $200 for a year and a tiny little plot. Oh well.

I couldn't believe what a big boy Kekoa looked like in these pictures...

What's going on over there?

18 month check up

This morning we went to see Dr. Drucker. We got the room with the big fancy window and had a beautiful view of the mountains, all covered in snow. I of course did not have a camera to capture the cuteness of Kekoa, in his little diaper, looking out the window, pointing to all the cars and saying "car" over and over again.
He did not however, enjoy being there once the assistant came in and Dr. Drucker. It was his first time being really scared of it all, especially the stethoscope. I think we will need to get a play one and practice playing doctor so maybe he won't be so afraid next time.
Dr. Drucker was in complete awe of how much Kekoa is talking. (Not to brag or anything) He couldn't get over it. He told us at this age, all that is expected is some babbles. We are very proud parents!

Kekoa is 22.7 pounds and 32 inches tall. He isn't gaining much weight, only about a pound since the last visit. Dr. Drucker isn't concerned and we aren't either. He eats plenty but is running around all the time.

He didn't like his shots at all. It makes me so sad to hear that cry. He got two shots, one in each leg. Ouch! Next visit is when he turns 2 years old...I can't believe it!

"Car Car"

Every morning, the first thing Kekoa does when he gets out of bed, is look for "car car". He calls "car car", beckoning it to come out of wherever it is hiding! It is really cute.

"Car car" where are you?
Car car is in the kitchen, resting on a chair.
There you are!

I love in this video how Kekoa keeps pointing his arms back. Notice the fancy bed head! :) We got up extra early to style his hair like this for the video ;)

Rainy day visit

Oh, thank goodness we had visitors today. It was pouring down rain, it was relentless. There was no break in it and it was so cold outside. The troops from Fremont braved the weather and came out to see us. We were so excited to see Kaiwei, Jiawei, Papa Beezy, and Auntie Jenny come through the door! "Ka Ka", Kekoa calls and follows Kaiwei everywhere. As always, the boys had so much fun playing with each other. Kekoa tried feeding Jiawei some of his dinner. Kekoa gets more and more interested in Jiawei each time we see him. He knows him as "baby". Kaiwei ate broccoli, the first time he's had veggies in almost a year! Jenny was super excited about this! It was just really nice to have them over. :)
Kaiwei loves coming over and playing with all of Kekoa's cars. He carefully lined them all up this time. Guess who had to copy him and do the same thing? Kekoa! But not before he messed up what Kaiwei had lined up!

Jiawei loves blankies. Jenny says that if she gives him one when its nap time, he'll fall right asleep. He likes the satin.

Not so sure about this seat!
A little head kiss for Papa!
A story after dinner. Thanks Papa Beezy!
Little porpoise!
Hi Jiawei! I asked Kekoa if he wanted to lay next to Jiawei and he got right down on the ground. I remember when Kekoa was a baby and asking Kaiwei to do the same thing!
You gotta a little something on your ear...
let me get it for you Jiawei! :)

Look at me standing! Only 3 1/2 months old!
A little head bump kiss for Jiawei.

A little grocery shopping...
