I can't believe our little baby is almost a year and half! It is just so crazy how fast it is going. I have to say that Scott and I are in complete toddler bliss right now. Kekoa is SO cute, everyday he gets cuter. We are eating it up right now, loving his sweetness, how much he likes to share, and how cooperative he is because we know the "twos" are just around the corner and from what we have experienced, the twos just aren't as easy!
This past month has been a big one for the amount of progress Kekoa has made in being able to move. He is so agile now, climbs up steps, no problem. Crawling all over the play equipment: no problem! going down the slide? no problem. Running down hills? no problem. Scaring mama? YES! He has no fear!
Kekoa is such a sweet little boy, so loving and generous with his hugs and kisses. He still just runs up to me, randomly, and says "mama" as he gives me a big hug. I love it when he is all done with his bath and I'm drying him off. He feels especially cuddly and gives me tons of kisses as he reaches his arms around my neck to give me hugs. He also likes to give people kisses (well a head bump) to say good-bye. It is very sweet.
This past month has been challenging in that Kekoa's two bottom molars are breaking through. His schedule has been thrown completely out of whack and he can't stop chewing on his fingers. Poor baby. Teething is no fun!
Eating/Nursing: The most amazing thing has happened this last month, Kekoa weaned himself from his mid-morning nursing! Now he only nurses in the morning and before bed. I have a feeling he will take awhile to wean himself off completely. I keep waiting for him to "self-wean" but I'm not sure if Kekoa will be ready for that any time soon.
Kekoa eats a light breakfast of yogurt, grapes, and cereal. He then has a snack around 11:30 and another snack when he wakes up from his nap. Dinner is still by far his favorite meal. We try to eat dinner between 5:00 and 5:30. Kekoa still eats slow so we need to start early! He is quite an adventurous eater and still loves his veggies. One of his favorites right now is roasted cauliflower. We have it at least once a week!
New sounds: Kekoa's vocabulary grows and grows everyday. He loves repeating words that you ask him to. He has gotten really good about saying please and thank you. Most of his words are still in Kekoa language that only Scott or I can understand, but it is still very exciting that he is trying so hard to talk. He communicates really well, always gets his point across! Some new words he is saying are: moon, car, ca (for crow). He will try and repeat what you are saying if you ask him to. He also really likes to point to things he knows the words to and says them...like "mama" as he pats me, and then "baba" and he pats Scott.
Sleeping: Kekoa is a lot of great things but a great sleeper isn't one of his strong suits. He is napping once a day, goes down between 12:00 and 12:30. Scott is putting him down for his nap now which is great! He will still fuss occasionally, wanting mama, but knows that nap time is with baba. The fussing is very short lived. He has also adopted his lovey, finally. It is a little blankie with a bear head on it, a gift from Delilah from before he was even born. He loves it and can't take his nap without it. He usually sleeps for at least an hour and if we go in and rub his back he will fall back asleep for another hour or so.
At night, Kekoa is usually asleep by 8:00 and will sleep until 7:30-8:00 in the morning. He does still stir a few times in the night and with teething, it seems like we have reverted back to newborn sleep schedule...waking every 2 hours. The past couple of days though, Kekoa has been thinking it would be fun to get up at 6:30! :(
There is never a dull moment with a cutie pie like Kekoa running around. We can't say enough how lucky we are to have such a special little boy.
