It is hard to believe that my baby will be turning 10 months old this Saturday. I was thinking back to when he was first born and how hard and stressful nursing was back then. Man, it was SO hard. Kekoa couldn't latch and I had to use the silicon nipple shield. It seems like such a long time ago. Now Kekoa is a champion at nursing. Sometimes he will let me know he is ready to nurse by pulling at my shirt. He even holds on like its a bottle. He gets so excited when it is time to nurse and does this machine gun sounding laugh, its pretty funny. What used to be so stressful is now one of my favorite parts of the day, just laying there with Kekoa, the two of us. He looks up at me with the same gaze that he has had since he was first born, I feel like he's looking at me, thinking, "You're my mama". It melts my heart. The past week, Kekoa has been very silly and excited about being able to move around a lot more. While we are laying down nursing, he will stop, roll himself onto his stomach, get himself into his crawling position (he does all this with his cute little pink tongue sticking out and a big smile on his face), and then will crawl onto my tummy and latch on! He also like to make fart noises on my stomach with his mouth. It's pretty hilarious.
The best part of Kekoa learning how to nurse is nighttime. If he starts to fuss, I just have to roll over and he can find the milk source entirely on his own and latch on. He'll even lift up my shirt if it's in his way! I don't really even have to wake up. Nursing is an amazing thing, such a special part of my journey of motherhood.
