Shave Ice

One of the things Scott and I are most excited about here is the food. We have been eating poke everyday and went to Ted's bakery today for some yummy treats, but what we are most excited about is shave ice. We told ourselves we were going to have a shave ice everyday from Matsumoto's, here in Haleiwa. We missed the first couple of days because of jet lag and running around getting settled. So, yesterday we went all out. We walked down to Matsumoto's, waited in the long line, and chose our flavors, lychee and lilikoi, with ice cream, azuki beans, and sweetened condensed milk on top! Whew, what a sugar rush! It was so completely delicious. We sat out front, and ate our cold treat as fast as we could. If you don't get it down fast enough, it melts and then is a sticky mess! The best is as it starts to melt, you suck the flavorful juice up with the straw. The ice cream has melted some and you also get a taste of the azuki beans. The combination of the yummy flavors is just heaven in your mouth! Kekoa didn't get any shave ice, but had a good time watching the chickens and roosters running around! Scott and I both decided that our super duper size shave ice made up for the 2 days of not getting one. We are back on track though. We got one today, same flavors but without all the fixings. Shave ice is sooooooo good!
