14 months

Wait, how is that Kekoa is already 14 months? I can't even say he is 1 year old anymore, he is older than that! I love this age, love 14 months. Kekoa is completely mobile now, walking all over the place. It still shocks me when he wanders into the kitchen to find me, with a big smile on his face, and his sippy cup in his hands. Sometimes he just comes in, smiles and turns right back around, sometimes he gives me his cup to fill up for him! I also love it when he comes wandering into the bathroom to find me. His new thing is to give me a big hug while I'm in there or drive his cars on my legs!

A typical day for us right now looks like this:
7:30ish wake up, nurse, and a lot of snuggling before we get out of bed to play, play, play
8:30ish try to eat breakfast
9:30ish go out for a run and play at the park
11:00 head home from the park for nap and try to eat a small snack
11:30 story, nurse and nap
2:00ish wake up, lots of snuggling again, sometimes nursing again before we get out of bed
2:30ish lunch
3:00 an outing or activity. We either go to the park or a museum or have a playdate or something fun. On Mondays we have swimming and Thursdays we have music class.
5:30ish dinner
6:30ish Moon hunt and bath. We go outside to find the moon. Kekoa loves this. I ask him, in Chinese, if he wants to go find the moon. He gives me the cutest smile and puts his arms up to be carried outside. If the moon is out, he gets SUPER excited and waves to it. When we come back inside it is bath time. I ask Kekoa where his tug boat is and then we walk around the apartment looking for it. It is still his favorite bath toy!
7:00 story, nurse, and bed. Kekoa has been taking awhile to fall asleep at night, ever since we got back from Hawaii. Some nights it can take an hour!! A good night is 30 minutes now. I'm hoping after the time change, things will normalize. The nice thing is if he sleeps later, he will usually sleep in in the mornings too.

Kekoa is a great eater when he is hungry. He doesn't eat much in the mornings, but makes up for it in the evening. Sometimes when I am feeding him dinner, I'm thinking to myself, is he really still hungry? How can he possibly still be hungry, he's eaten so much! He now eats whatever we are eating, which is a huge relief. He still has all of his favorites though, Greek yogurt, tomatoes and avocado still rank very high on his food favorites! He will point to the tomatoes on the counter and say "te te", which is tomato in Kekoa language. He also loves fruit (no surprise, since that is what I craved while pregnant with him) and had his first taste of Chinese noodle soup. When I gave him a spoonful, he said, "Mmmmmm" and kept pointing to the bowl, wanting more! He is definitely an adventurous eater, at least for now. He will try anything we put in his mouth. He's still not a huge bread fan though, but does like pasta now! Whew!

Kekoa is down to one nap a day. He usually nurses around 11:30 and then is asleep by noon. He has also gone from only napping about 30 minutes to now napping 2 hours on most days (knock on wood). Wow, who would have thought our baby that was soooooo hard to get to sleep would become this champion napper. Cassie said it would happen but I had my doubts! :) It is like his brain can settle down now that he has learned how to walk and can communicate his needs. I am so happy he is only taking one nap. It took a long time to transition to the 1 nap, but it is really nice.

Kekoa is talking up a storm. He is constantly talking, most of it is still in Kekoa language, but he does repeat what we are saying to him. He is finally saying mama, all the time now. I never get tired of hearing it. When he sees dogs, he will bark and when he wants his toy cars, he says vroom, vroom. It amazes me how much Kekoa understands. When we come inside, I tell him to sit down to take off his shoes, and he does! It is really cute. When it is time to go out, he will sit by the door and grab his shoes, he can say shoes in Chinese. When it is diaper changing time, he will lay down, sometimes with a tantrum attached (he doesn't like getting his diaper changed). When I tell him it is time to eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner, he will wander over to his high chair! It is so amazing, how much he is learning.

I am so lucky and happy that I get to be home with Kekoa. We have so much fun together. He definitely keeps me laughing and entertained. He is still an attention magnet. Anywhere we go, I hear, "Oh, what a cutie pie." or " your baby is so cute", as Kekoa flirts, by batting his eyes and giving them his winning smile. His new thing is to flirt and then get shy for a second and run into my arms with a huge smile. I love it when he does this, it is so sweet, like he is checking in that his mama is still there. He loves going to the park and is loving the swings again. He went through a short phase of just wanting to walk around the playground. Now when I ask him if he wants to get out of the swing, he will rock his body to show me he still wants to swing...and boy does he love going super high!

I cherish every moment I have with Kekoa. It is already going by so fast and I know he will not always need me this much. I savor every hug and every kiss! :) Being a mom is the best, there is nothing else like it.
