a typical afternoon

Since Kekoa isn't napping anymore, afternoons have become a bit more lively and interesting. Usually, Malia takes her long nap in the afternoon, which leaves time for Kekoa to play by himself and/or have me spend some time with him. It is usually a little of both.

Today we played legos, a huge hit now with Kekoa. His imagination just amazes us. Some days we do puzzles, some days we play trains, some days we play stuffed animals, some days we read a ton of books, some days we watch a video, and some days we do all of the above. Kekoa will tell me, "mommy, today during relax time, I want to watch a movie". I love the way he says "relax". Video days are really when I need to just shut my eyes for a little bit, I lay on the couch while he watches a short video. I never would have thought it would come to this, but I am just doing what I need to in order to make it through the day! :)

It is proving to be really difficult to go anywhere too far in the afternoons. Since Kekoa isn't napping, I need to get him into bed by 7:00, which makes it so we have an early dinner, then rush to take a bath, and rush to get him into bed. If we go anywhere, it is hard to get home in time. Plus, I am usually so exhausted by the afternoon, just wiped out. Plus, Malia sometimes naps until late, which makes it impossible to go anywhere anyways. We are lucky we live so close to a park, just a couple of blocks away, and now that Kekoa has his bike, I know we will be riding in the afternoons.

Funny how our afternoons have changed so much. Before it was so necessary to get out of the house when Kekoa woke up from his nap. We were always on the go. With two kiddos, it is sometimes just easier to stay closer to home, makes for an easier evening for me.
