San Francisco weekend

What a wonderful weekend we had in San Francisco. We go every year during the holidays, one of our traditions, and stay a couple of nights. The weather was just gorgeous...sunny skies, I couldn't believe it.
The first day, we took Kekoa to the Golden Gate Bridge. He has driven across it many times, but never walked out on it. He loved being up so high and over the water, but didn't love so much to be in a backpack.
There were so many people out and about, enjoying the epic weather. I always feel even luckier to live in California when the weather is so nice in December. People were out running in shorts and short sleeves!
For dinner, we went to this place called Uncle Vito's. The famous "twins of San Francisco" were there. Scott didn't believe me that they were famous, until he saw droves of people wanting their autographs and pictures. They were wearing matching leopard print outfits with leopard print hats. We found out later that they eat at Uncle Vito's a few times a week.

Yum. We headed to one of our favorite breakfast places, Park Chow, before going to the Golden Gate Bridge. Their french toast is the best.

Kekoa devoured his buttermilk pancake. Scott and I were so impressed with how much of a dent he put in it.

baby zambina's first trip to SF!

A banana snack at the hotel.

a big bite!

OMG...look at that tree! On our way to dinner, we had to check out Union Square!

Oh that tree in Union Square is unbeatable...so sparkly and huge.

this crazy looking thing next to Scott called himself the "Christmas angle". It scared Kekoa!

Playing with the "buttons" on the phone kept Kekoa very entertained! It was adorable to watch him and his imagination.

Sunday we walked down to the Ferry Building, thinking there was a farmer's market there...we were wrong. The farmer's market is on Saturday, oops. Kekoa loved the Ferry Building. He got to watch a boat come in and dock, which he thought was so amazing, and he saw a fire truck. He went crazy for the fire truck! We headed to dim sum at, which is just so delicious. Kekoa wasn't feeling it though, he had a couple bites of food and then decided no more. He was fascinated with the water that comes down from the ceiling. He really wanted to get in the water, but was a good little boy and listened to his mama when she said, not a good idea!

Yum, noodles.

Wow, look at the water.

Is that where it comes from mama?

On the way back to the hotel, we popped into the Hyatt Regency at the Embarcadero. Their lobby was so lit up, lights stringing down, lights everywhere. It was awesome.

Kekoa passed out in the pillows...he is napping away.

Amazingly, Kekoa took a long afternoon nap (he hasn't been napping all week). I got to shop during this time and Scott relaxed in the hotel room. We met up with Auntie Cindy, Ava, and Suzanna after Kekoa woke up, at the Rotunda restaurant in Neimen Marcus. I didn't even know there was a restaurant in Neimen's. It has the most beautiful ceiling. What a treat to have tea with such good company in such a festive place.

Wow...what a ceiling!

All the pretty cakes and mini sandwiches for "tea service".

For dinner we headed to Cheesecake Factory and were so lucky to sit outside with the gorgeous view of Union Square. For some reason, every meal we ordered for Kekoa this weekend, he didn't want to eat. He would say he wants it, "yeah mama, I want noodles" or "yeah mama, I want a hamburger" and then when the food would come, he would spit it out and say, "I no like it mama"! He had a very carb filled weekend, lots of bread.

Checking out the ice skaters in Union Square.

Having fun at Cheesecake Factory.

After dinner we stopped off at the beautiful lobby of the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. The decorations there are just awesome. Kekoa couldn't stop staring a the two trains the circled around the gingerbread castle.

The amazing gingerbread castle...

Monday was cable car day. All weekend long, Kekoa would hear the "ding ding" of the cable car and point them out. He was so patient as we waited in line, enjoying the street entertainment. We finally got on and Kekoa had a birds eye view. He was in seventh heaven. The cable car conductor was so nice. At the end of the line, he let Kekoa ring the bell, which was the highlight of Kekoa's trip to SF.

A view of Alcatraz off in the distance...we are at the top of the hill. Lombard Street (the most crooked street) is off to our right.

Oh, please let me on the cable car again! The line was way to long to wait again. We needed to get back to the hotel to get our car and head back home. Kekoa was SUPER disappointed when he thought we wouldn't be riding the cable car again.

Kekoa was in luck. We took the Mason line back to Union Square...there was no line at all!

What I love about going to San Francisco this time of year is all the decorations. The stores have amazing window displays, the hotel lobbies are beautiful and Union Square is just awesome. There were so many people out and about. i don't remember it being so crowded last year, but I'm sure it was. The weather was definitely better this year, last year it rained! Kekoa couldn't stop smiling the entire weekend, especially riding on his baba's shoulders! He loves the city as much as we do...all the lights, the hustle bustle, the trolleys and cable cars...heaven for our little man. He told me, as he was falling asleep on Sunday night, "I like the big city mama." It is also the best to have all the time to spend together as a family. Being away from home and our normal "routine" is refreshing and rejuvenating. We already can't wait to go back next year!

  1. What a fun weekend and great family tradition. I specifically came to check out your blog as I was hoping to get some ideas - we are leaving for Sausalito tomorrow for 2 nights and will plan for some time in the city. I think a cable car is definitely on the agenda - looks like you perhaps rode the Powell-Hyde to aquatic Park and then the Powell-Mason back - good tip to know in case there is a long line. Happy New Year!
