Dear little monkey,
Wow, today you are 3 1/2 years old, only 6 more months and you will be a big 4 year old boy!! Hard to imagine it, really can't believe how fast it has gone by.
3 1/2 is a challenging age, super fun, but super duper challenging. There are days that I feel like I am going to lose my mind...you have the most unreasonable demands that just don't make any sense to my adult brain. There is a lot of deep breathing going on.
For each super challenging moment, there are so many more moments of utter cuteness. I mean, seriously, the stuff you say and ask me blows me away. The other day at the beach I was showing you what ice plant was. You said, "does it need ice to grow?"...the perfect example of how everything is taken very literal with you.
You also asked me, while driving home last week, "mama, where does the sun go?" I told you it goes to the other side of the world, then you asked me "can we go to the other side of the world?" I told you we would definitely go when you are a little bit older. You of course asked me why, and I told you so you would remember. You seemed satisfied with this. But I truly think that the other side of the world for you is the world over the mountains, you see the sun setting over the mountains and want to go there.
The mama love is still intense. You do love to play with your Baba, a whole lot these days. I call them the "mama vacation" times, but you always come back. You have definitely regressed some, acting like a baby. Hey, you are just too smart. You see your baby sister getting all this attention and you do the same things to get attention, like not walking, not talking, gesturing to things that you want, not feeding yourself....super fun for mama! :) The other morning, Malia was actually feeding herself breakfast while I was feeding you your oatmeal, hmmmm, what is wrong with that picture!
Things you love right now (in no particular order):
-your baby sister
-your stuffed animals
-your family
-legos
-jumping and running
-underdog on the swings
-doing "tricky" moves at the park
-the "orange park"
-riding your bike super fast
-your friends
-still love reading books
-eating oranges (cuties, you'll pound 3 in one sitting!), pesto, pizza, oatmeal with blueberries, "baba's good ham sandwiches" (what you request for lunch), cheese sticks, smoothies, drinking gallons of milk, chocolate
-playing with sticks
-your cars
-taking long baths
-ocean creatures
-spelling your name
-Buzz Lightyear
-school and music class
-asking me "this is brave" when you are trying out new tricks
-snuggling
-singing the Sesame Street ABC, a CD that is in the car, OMG we listen to it constantly
-having a story told to you in bed that involves whatever stuffed animals you are sleeping with that night
-having me sing you a song before bed, right now it is "my kekoa lies over the ocean..."
-whining (this is tough on us)
-acting like a big boy (this one made both lists)
Things that are not on your top 10 list:
-sleeping by yourself
-sleeping in general
-acting like a big boy
-getting yourself dressed (we've given up for now)
-putting on sunscreen
-wearing jackets
You keep us entertained, all day, every day. You are the best Ge Ge a baby sister could ask for (most of the time). You have so much love and are a very sensitive, sweet, little boy. You fiercely protect the people and things you love. I have been hearing you ask your friends, "are you ok?" if they get hurt, without any prompting or grownups around, it is so sweet. You are super smart and love to learn. We love you with all of our hearts.
love,
your mama
xoxo
