What a busy day Kekoa and I had today. First apple picking and then this evening we headed to CDM for their Moon Festival celebration. I felt so bad leaving our little girl behind and she felt bad too, screamed for 30 minutes after we left (so sorry Scott). Kekoa had napped in the car on the way home which is why we could venture out of the house after dinner.
We met the Fremont crew there and boy was it crowded. There was lantern making at every turn, so many different kinds of lanterns, all getting ready for the parade that was happening at the end of the night. There was also sampling of delicious moon cakes, some flavors that I have never even heard of. The boys had a great time making pizzas and driving the old Model A.
The Fremont crew left before me and Kekoa. We hung around until the very end and I am so glad we did. We were finishing up the final lantern when we heard the loud drumming and the lion dancers coming. They were right next to us...we were in the perfect spot. We both quickly rushed out so we could follow the lion dancers. It was the coolest thing, everyone with their lanterns lit up (CDM handed out glow sticks to put inside the lanterns) following the lion dancers in a parade. Kekoa was SO excited, he was running to keep up with the dancers, didn't want to let them out of his sight. I figured he would be scared of them, but he couldn't get enough. We circled around with them twice before they did their big show stopping finale. The air was filled with excitement. As we were driving home, Kekoa asked me if we could come again next year! It was really fun being out with Kekoa at night, he knows it is a special treat and he just can't get over how dark everything is and all the lights everywhere!
My dad traveled in one of these, when he was 5 years old, all the way to California!! He sat up by the back window.
