Kekoa has been giving us a little preview of what life will be like when he enters the "2's", aka, the terrible twos.
He has been throwing full on tantrums, limp noodle body and everything. We are trying to figure out how to avoid the tantrums. He is starting not to like transitions, especially when he is having a really great time. So far, if you tell Kekoa he has 5 minutes left at the park or a friends house or whatever it is he is doing, he seems to be ok with the transition. Also, if he is hungry, forget it, the tantrums will happen!
Screaming is a new thing that has started the past couple of days. It is a really high pitch scream, sometimes combined with a tantrum. Today Kekoa was upset that his friend Milan was playing with a toy he wanted. He screamed and then ran into the corner, very upset. It is almost like he is putting himself on a time out. The scream is pretty brutal, ear piercing.
Running into a corner, away from the situation is a new thing too. Kekoa does this when he is very upset. Sometimes things get him upset and I'm not sure what the trigger was. He is usually ok after a few minutes, when he's let off some steam!
It is not all negative stuff. Kekoa is still the best little boy, 99.9% of the time!
Kekoa has even more patience now for stories. He has always been a great reader and loved to sit in your lap to read stories, but now the stories can be longer....not just picture books. This morning we read 4 Curious George stories and Kekoa was ready for more. At bedtime tonight, he came out to the bookshelf and looked for stories he knew he wanted, scanned the bindings of all the books like and adult does. He found the two he wanted and carried both of them to his room (they were big books too, not little board books). It was so cute. I love that he loves his books. It is such a snuggly time.
Kekoa is very good at communicating what he wants or needs. His speech is just so amazing. It is really nice to be able to ask him where something hurts or what he wants to eat and have him answer. It cuts out a lot of frustration...as long as we can understand what he wants! :) I am pretty fluent in Kekoa speak.
I also love that I can ask him to do something and he does! He helps me load up the diaper bag before we leave with a diaper, his water, milk, and snacks. It is adorable. He also loves to throw things away and still enjoys picking up his dirty clothes to put in the hamper.
No diapers? He has peed in his potty 3 times now. I can't wait until we are out of diapers!
Kekoa is still so snuggly. He'll come up to me all the time and want a hug or a kiss. It is very sweet. I love it. Just tonight, after his bath, he had both his hands on my cheeks and giving me kisses. My heart was melting for sure!
