a garden after all

April 22
The thing I was most bummed about by not moving was that it was going to be the 5 year without having a garden. I LOVE gardening, love watching all the plants grow and getting to eat vegetables that I've grown. Well, we are so lucky to be living where we are because the manager of our apartment just happens to be the landlords son (Uncle Dom's!), and a really great friend of ours. After telling him what happened with the house we were supposed to be moving into, I was really expressing how bummed I was about the no garden thing. He told me we could get planter boxes and plant a garden out back, in the carport area! Wooo hooo! So, a garden we have planted. It looks so beautiful too.
It is amazing to take a piece of concrete and breathe life into it, well I guess really on top of it.
We have a couple kinds of tomatoes, artichoke, zucchini, cucumber, couple kinds of eggplant, and a dwarf apricot tree. I am so excited and Kekoa is too. He is my little helper. We have been checking on our plants everyday and giving them water.
It is so wonderful to get my hands in the dirt again!

There used to be nothing here, just the flat concrete. Dominic found all these black pots, drilled the holes in them and everything. He purchased most of the dirt and plants too. Thank you!
This is the before shot, before any of the plants have been repotted into the soil.

Do you want me to move this pot mama?
Hmmmm. Where should I start?
Which tool?

This one!

Look at how crazy big the zucchini is getting!

Wow, our garden is going crazy. We actually had our first zucchini the other night, well Kekoa ate it. He approved! :)
Today when we went to go check on the plants, I noticed all these little baby cucumber starting, they are so cute and tiny. Kekoa was super excited about them too.
He was most excited though about our first tomato that is starting. We have 5 different kinds of tomatoes planted, but only the cherry tomato has started to produce any fruit. It has been so cold here, so I'm not expecting a lot of tomatoes. Kekoa was giving the little tomato a lot of love. I can't wait to have him pick them off the plant, he's going to love it.

Cucumber...

The baby cucumber, so tiny and still attached to the yellow flower.
Look at the monster zucchini now!

Full of blossoms wanting to turn to yummy zucchini!

Japanese eggplant. I didn't think this plant was going to make it, but now it has such a thick stalk and all kinds of flowers. I hope we get a lot of yummy eggplant!

My little gardner. Kekoa likes to help me water and find any flowers or veggies.

The first tomato...

Kekoa giving it some love.
