yay Gavin

This morning we met Gavin and his mama at the park. They have been in Hawaii and we have missed them very much. Kekoa couldn't stop talking about "Ga Ga" at breakfast, he was super excited to see him. Welcome back to chilly California!

Look, no hands....our 2 little daredevils.

Kekoa is in charge of "snacks" :)

play group

June 1

Kekoa is in a play group with two other little boys, Milan and Kasper. We try to meet once a week. The past few weeks it has just been Kasper and Kekoa, but today Milan joined in on the fun. It was adorable watching the three of them play. Kekoa was really excited to have people over for a visit. He even said, "Kaper come in my room" (well, not that clearly, but that is what he was trying to say)
At the end of the playdate, we all went outside. It had rained earlier and Kekoa was insistent on wearing his rain boots. The three of them beelined to the water, where Kasper proceeded to get covered with water, from head to toe. Kekoa watched him from the sidelines, wondering what to make of it all.

When I asked him later what the best part of his day was, he said "a frwend" (friends). How sweet!

Kasper loved giving Kekoa his water and Kekoa loved it too!

Kekoa and Kasper couldn't stop hugging each other and giving each other kisses. It is melt your heart cute.

Where is Milan going?

I remember this hippo!

Kekoa is watching and waiting for his turn with the hippo...

a garden after all

April 22
The thing I was most bummed about by not moving was that it was going to be the 5 year without having a garden. I LOVE gardening, love watching all the plants grow and getting to eat vegetables that I've grown. Well, we are so lucky to be living where we are because the manager of our apartment just happens to be the landlords son (Uncle Dom's!), and a really great friend of ours. After telling him what happened with the house we were supposed to be moving into, I was really expressing how bummed I was about the no garden thing. He told me we could get planter boxes and plant a garden out back, in the carport area! Wooo hooo! So, a garden we have planted. It looks so beautiful too.
It is amazing to take a piece of concrete and breathe life into it, well I guess really on top of it.
We have a couple kinds of tomatoes, artichoke, zucchini, cucumber, couple kinds of eggplant, and a dwarf apricot tree. I am so excited and Kekoa is too. He is my little helper. We have been checking on our plants everyday and giving them water.
It is so wonderful to get my hands in the dirt again!

April 22
There used to be nothing here, just the flat concrete. Dominic found all these black pots, drilled the holes in them and everything. He purchased most of the dirt and plants too. Thank you!
This is the before shot, before any of the plants have been repotted into the soil.

Do you want me to move this pot mama?
Hmmmm. Where should I start?
Which tool?

This one!

Kekoa is checking on the plants. Thanks monkey.

Look at how crazy big the zucchini is getting!

June 1
Wow, our garden is going crazy. We actually had our first zucchini the other night, well Kekoa ate it. He approved! :)
Today when we went to go check on the plants, I noticed all these little baby cucumber starting, they are so cute and tiny. Kekoa was super excited about them too.
He was most excited though about our first tomato that is starting. We have 5 different kinds of tomatoes planted, but only the cherry tomato has started to produce any fruit. It has been so cold here, so I'm not expecting a lot of tomatoes. Kekoa was giving the little tomato a lot of love. I can't wait to have him pick them off the plant, he's going to love it.

Cucumber...

The baby cucumber, so tiny and still attached to the yellow flower.
Look at the monster zucchini now!

Full of blossoms wanting to turn to yummy zucchini!

Japanese eggplant. I didn't think this plant was going to make it, but now it has such a thick stalk and all kinds of flowers. I hope we get a lot of yummy eggplant!

My little gardner. Kekoa likes to help me water and find any flowers or veggies.

The first tomato...

Kekoa giving it some love.

pee pee potty

Yay, Kekoa did it...he really went pee pee in his potty this evening. He has been obsessed with it, ever since he saw Kaiwei pee in it last Saturday. Tonight he said, "Ka Ka shi shi (pee pee)" and was pointing to his potty. I asked him if he would like to sit down and go before he got in the tub. He usually says no and then goes pee on the bathroom floor! :) Tonight he said yes, then sat down and went. He thought it was the neatest thing to see his pee in the little potty. He was more excited to flush! Good job Kekoa, we are SO proud of you! :)

Kekoa visits school

Today Kekoa and I went to visit where I used to work. It was Kekoa's first visit there and my first time back too since I left.
He was very excited about going to "school bus" (what he calls school). We went to visit Auntie Tessa but saw so many of the teachers I used to work with. Kekoa was the big hit...he was a little shy, overwhelmed by all the attention, but then when it was about time for us to leave, he warmed up. He liked walking through the school and seeing all the really huge kids and their backpacks. The school mascot is a lion and Kekoa just loved seeing them all over the school. It was a great visit but so nice to leave and not have to bring home a ton of papers to grade!

Kekoa was super excited to climb on this lion. He was such a cutie pie as he posed for the camera!
