5 days old...

Little Jaiwei is 5 days old today and just so adorable. We went over this morning, bright and early to see him. I got to feed him and change his diaper....my, I am a little rusty, have completely forgotten how small a new born is. I was afraid he was going to roll and fall off the changing table...oh, wait, newborns don't move. It still freaked me out. I forgot how to burp such a little baby too. It all came back though. He is so snuggly and such a cutie.
Today was Kekoa's first time meeting Jaiwei...he was not impressed. I thought he would be really excited because he loves babies, but he was way more into playing with the trucks. He did get a little jealous when he saw me giving Jaiwei the bottle, he said "mama" and got a little teary eyed. He quickly got over it and started to bring Jaiwei toys...a big stuffed dog and the trucks!
Kaiwei is having a little bit of a hard time, having a new baby brother at home. When he saw me changing Jaiwei's diaper, he asked my dad if he could change his diaper! Then later, when he saw me changing Kekoa's poopy diaper, he asked if I could change his diaper. I asked him if he had pooped, he said "maybe" with a big smile on his face. I told him I would check his diaper, but he said I should probably change it anyways!
The cutest thing about today was watching Kekoa and Kaiwei together. It was the first time they both really played with each other. Kaiwei was doing a great job sharing his toys, which has been pretty hard for him since he has turned 2. He was giving Kekoa such big hugs that they actually fell down together! Oh it was making my heart melt!

What's so funny?

Oh my goodness, I don't know what was in my milk tonight, but Kekoa was so hyper! He couldn't stop laughing in bed, which then made me start laughing too. He was being so silly. I am trying to get him to attach onto this little blankie, to sooth him when I am not around. He was taking this little blankie, putting it over his face, and playing peek-a-boo with himself. Keep in mind that the room is completely dark! He thought this was hilarious. I did too, but was trying really hard not to laugh out loud!
I thought it was super cute too, that he is just so happy that he had to keep laughing...hard to get upset at a laughing baby, even when you really want them to sleep. :) He did eventually calm himself down, but I still think it is really funny that our little monkey is so silly!

Utensils

Kekoa used a fork for the first time yesterday, picked up a piece of chicken and put it in his mouth! During breakfast today, he actually ate yogurt off of his spoon! He is so incredibly proud of himself. At lunch he ate some couscous and cottage cheese off his spoon! Yes, there is a lot more that ends up everywhere but in his mouth, but practice makes perfect, right?

Toddlerfied

I am amazed everyday at how much Kekoa changes...becoming less and less of a baby and more and more an independent toddler. We played hookie today from music class, the weather was way too perfect to be inside. Where did Kekoa and I go instead? We went to the beach again...of course! No pics though, I was on my own this time and was busy following my little monkey all around. He was into his own thing, didn't even want to hold my hand for most of the afternoon. He had the best time, finding every huge pile of kelp that had washed up on the beach and trying to pick it up. He also discovered the wet sand, the kind of sand that is all gooey, that your feet sink into if you stand in it too long. The tide was really low and we could walk way out onto the beach. He was headed toward the water and then realized how amazing this wet sand was. He kept bending down, picking it up, and then trying to fling it off of his hands. He was the sandiest he had ever been, it was quite hilarious. Since I was on my own, I had Kekoa walk back to the car with me, while I lugged all the stuff. He was so cute, holding my hand the whole way. It was like he knew we were heading to the car and he needed to stay close. He made it most of the way back, through the soft sand, but got tired toward the end. He ran up to my legs and wanted to be carried the rest of the way to the car. I was impressed at how far he walked. We sure did miss daddy today at the beach, but still enjoyed this 80 degree November day in Santa Cruz!

We were both really hungry from playing at the beach. I have been able to cook in the evenings again (very quick meals only, a lot of pasta!) Kekoa keeps himself busy, playing with his toys and rearranging his clothes! Today I found him taking out all his neatly folded t-shirts and putting them back in the drawer, what a great helper! :)
Kekoa finished his dinner early, we had some time to kill before bath and bed, so we headed outside. It was so incredibly warm, even though the sun was setting. The sky was so pink and beautiful. All Kekoa had on was his cloth diaper and a t-shirt. As soon as we went outside, he was off and running to the complex next door...they have the coolest rocks! Kekoa is so curious, I love watching him explore. Again, he was completely independent, off and doing his own thing. As we were heading home, we met a really nice mom with her two girls, also enjoying the warm evening. Kekoa was totally flirting with them, saying bye bye and giving his award winning smile!

Ooooh, rocks!

Making my escape!

made it...
I think I need to sit in the rocks!

swings please

October 21

Kekoa is back into loving the swings. He went through a very brief phase, when he first learned how to walk, when he wasn't too into the swings. He wanted to walk around the park instead. Now the swings are first thing he wants to do and sometimes when I take him out, he'll walk back over to the swings and gesture to go back in! I love watching how the wind from the swings blows his crazy hair and how he will lean his head back and close his eyes. What an adrenaline junkie! :)

All ready for the park...

When I ask Kekoa if he is ready to get out, he will usually wiggle his body back and forth, telling me he still wants to be pushed.

Kekoa is ready for his nap. He was saying "mama, mama, mama" until I brought out the camera, of course! :)
