The last few nights, Kekoa has been having the hardest time going to sleep because there are lions in his room. As soon as I leave, he is off the bed to find me, "mama, the lions are coming". There are 3 very specific reasons why there aren't any lions in Kekoa's room:
1. He has a L.E.D. candle in his room, which of course lions do not like.
2. He has little monster socks, which lions are scared of. Kekoa is friends with the monsters so they will protect him from the lions.
3. He also has Paulie and Didi, the lions are definitely scared of his polar bears!
Even with all this protection, Kekoa still doesn't like it when I leave. It takes many times of him getting off the bed to come find me. We walk back to his room, I tell him why the lions aren't coming (see 3 reasons above) but he is still scared. He will also get off his bed and tell me his toe hurts or his nose is running or his hand hurts or....
Tonight I turned the light on in our bedroom, across from his, to see if it will help. As I am writing this, he is tossing and turning in bed, still not asleep, eyes wide open.

so much love
Kekoa now tells us he loves us all the time, at the most random moments. He will catch us by surprise, "mama, I love you so much. I love baba too and zamboni." It melts my heart each time.
What amazes me the most is that Kekoa can love his baby sister so much, love this person that he has never even met. He is always wanting to give her kisses, belly rubs, and big hugs. He is just fascinated with my big belly and knows that his baby sister is in there. i love it when he says, "let's open her up mama." (which means, let't lift up your shirt so I can give her a kiss).
He knows she is family. He tells me how he is going to share his stuffed animals with her, his trains, his Thomas backpack, whatever it is he is playing with. I know the reality is that it will probably be hard for him to share with her, but it is still the sweetest thing that he is thinking about her.

happy mama's day
It was a good day today, not a relaxing, get a massage or pedicure or even extra sleep kind of mother's day, but still a good day. I have to pinch myself sometimes that I am a mother, that mother's day is a day to celebrate me too. I am so lucky I get to be the mama of such a beautiful, special little boy and that I have a little girl that will come any day now. I never thought I wanted to be a mom. Now I can't imagine my life any other way. I can't believe Scott and I created such an amazing little person. Not every moment is so wonderful and special, there are definitely challenges and I practice using my patience daily, but I wouldn't trade any of it in.
My day started with an early morning walk. That was nice, to be out in the cool morning air. I met Scott and Kekoa at the farmer's market on the way back. Kekoa picked out the most beautiful flowers, one of my favorites, gerber daisies. Of course he picked orange! Kekoa and I walked home together from farmer's market, Scott drove all the flowers home ( we got my mom a huge potted flowering plant). Walking home with my little monkey was definitely a highlight of the day. He was so cute, we smelled the roses on the way home and had a quick stop at the park. I was hugging him as I put him in the swing and just inhaling his smell. He smelled like a mix of strawberries (sampled at the market) and his sweet smell. I wish I could have bottled it up.
We had to hurry home because my mom was coming over for brunch. Scott and I made my famous french toast...so yummy. Kekoa ate two huge pieces and my mom loved it too. Challah bread definitely makes the best french toast.
After Kekoa went down for his nap, I made a quick errand run to Buy Buy Baby...pick up some last minute things. I feel like I have been procrastinating so many things, so it felt good to get this out of the way, checked off my to do list. I was very excited for the afternoon because my Auntie M was coming with the rest of the Fremont crew.
Auntie M is such a special and amazing woman in my life. I aspire to be more like her, so thoughtful and generous, it just feels good to be around her. I just wished she lived closer to us. It is the first time we have spent mother's day together. She actually made dinner (thank you) and brought dessert too. Dessert was my fave, strawberry shortcake, fresh strawberries, whip cream and short bread...so yummy that I had 2 helpings! :)
I hope all you mama's out there had a wonderful day!

A little snuggle time with baba. Scott had to go to work, but went in later than usual and got to come a bit earlier too.

I loved watching Kekoa play catch with my dad. He couldn't stop laughing.

Uncle Mango even came over for dinner...he is "jogging" now.

so cute watching Kaiwei and Kekoa play legos.

fun saturday afternoon
Finally, Kekoa took a nap at home today. All week he has been protesting or just napping in the car. He slept a long time, which was a nice break for me too.
We had talked about going to the library when he woke up from his nap. There was a kid's festival going on there and I knew he would have a great time. Unfortunately, by the time we got there, he only had 30 minutes to enjoy it. But it was all good, he wanted to go in the jumpy house and jump he did, for the entire 30 minutes. He was so cute inside, so happy, bouncing all over the place. Since it was so late in the day, he was the only kid jumping in it for most of the time. He was doing these "booty bounces", where he would bounce on his butt.
After the jumpy house, we sat in the shade and had snacks. He got to have a "special" snack, a s'more Luna bar, which he devoured....boy does he love chocolate. Kekoa drank SO much water, he was all sweaty from jumping and his cheeks were super red. It felt great in the shade and I love that I can sit and people watch with Kekoa. He loves to watch people too!
He spotted a bulldozer and we went to go check it out. He was such boy, exploring and asking so many questions about the bulldozer.
He did get to play on some of the other toys, as the people were cleaning things up. There was a car roller coaster that he was super excited about. Last year he was too small to sit in the car, but not this year. He pushed it up to the top himself and down he went.
I had so much fun with my little man this afternoon. It was so wonderful to have him in such a great mood. No tantrums and following directions. He was making me laugh all afternoon. Crazy what a little sleep will do! :)

Kekoa staring longingly at the old library, where he used to play all the time. "Mama, I play over there?" Of course! He couldn't stop running up and down the ramp.

we all scream for ice cream
Two words: Penny Creamery
The best ice cream. I am just lucky it is in Santa Cruz or I would be going there almost every day.
We went to Santa Cruz again today, Scott had the day off. As we were leaving the beach, Kekoa requested ice cream (ok, I may have planted the seed). Who can refuse his sweet little voice, asking for a sweet treat that is so delicious.
He LOVES this place, loves sharing ice cream with us and loves the waffle cones! There is just something about ice cream and the beach...
