I'm going to school!

Kekoa started his first day of school today. He was SUPER excited to go. I was asking him all week if he was excited to start school, and he would tell me with a huge smile, "yeah". Today he started telling me he wanted to ride the school bus. I had to explain to him that school and a school bus are two different things.
The class is like a parent co-op preschool without the meetings. Kekoa was actually supposed to start at a pre-school this weekend, but the monthly meetings in the evenings were stressing me out. With Scott working in the evenings, it was just too much.
This is a "toddler and me" class and it is going to be perfect. It is once a week in a preschool setting. There are tons of toys to play with, the kids all sit together and have a snack and then the teacher ends the morning with story time. Kekoa loved the story time, it was so cute how much he was laughing at the stories.

Kekoa was a little nervous when we first walked in, but warmed right up. He took my hand to have me show him around, not quite brave enough to wander around on his own. Once I got him away from the train table, we played a bit with play dough and outside with the push cars. He couldn't believe how many different toys there were.

We both had a lot of fun and made some new friends. It will be so good for Kekoa to be in this pre-school setting.

It took me about 15 minutes to pull Kekoa away from the train table and have him check out all the other toys!

labor day with noah

We had the best time yesterday afternoon with Noah and his mama Jessica. Kekoa couldn't wait to see friend Noah. I had to stop by Safeway first to pick up some vino and Kekoa said, "no mama, Noah house first".
The boys play really well together which means the mamas can actually have a little downtime and enjoy a glass of wine. Kekoa loves to follow Noah around and they both love to chase each other and laugh and laugh. At one point, it got really quite in the backyard. When we peeked our heads out there, both boys had wandered off to the garden to pick tomatoes. It was really cute. It is the second time we've had dinner over there, so Kekoa knew where he was going to sit...while I was in the kitchen, he went and crawled right up into the seat on his own and waited so patiently for dinner.
Thank you guys for a fun Labor Day!

A little pre-dinner snack....fig newtons and pears. I think Noah could have eaten the whole package of fig newtons, he LOVES them!

a great day

I had so much fun with Kekoa today. He was in a really great mood all day, he didn't really have any major meltdowns at all today. He was so agreeable with everything, just like old times! :) It was like he forgot he was 2 today.
He was the cutest thing at farmer's market this morning. We went together to give baba a little break. Kekoa loves farmer's market, loves walking around, checking out all the people and of course sampling the fruit! On our walk back to the car, Kekoa saw a sign in front of a store and was so excited to see letters. He is starting to recognize letters and knows that put together, they say something. I was super proud of him today because he picked out the letter "K" in the name of the store!

After his nap, (hallelujah he took a really long nap today) and some snuggle time, we went outside to play. We kicked the ball around and played with his dump truck. He was all smiles and giggles outside.
He was cracking me up with his dump truck. He would race it from one end of the carport to the other, making the "vroom vroom" sound before sprinting off. He kept saying "mama" to show off how fast he was running. So cute.

Dinner and bedtime were so pleasant too. No struggle at all...a miracle. He actually took a bath (he has only been wanting showers) and was having so much fun. He was pretending to swim, he lays on his belly in the water and kicks his legs. When I drained the water, there was no protest, he just stayed on his belly, having the best time with his fire truck. He was telling me how "mama, baba, koa drive firetruck" and pointing to the front window of the firetruck, telling me he could "see mama, baba" in the firetruck.
Bedtime is usually very challenging, lots of tears and a struggle to get lotion on, diaper on, and pj's on. Tonight was all good, lots of giggles, it was so nice. I cherish these agreeable, easy days.

let's play pretend

Kekoa imagination is taking off and it amazes me. Tonight while I was cooking dinner, I was able to distract my super hungry monkey by asking him if Ernie needed a diaper change? This led to Kekoa not only "changing" Ernie's diaper, but also Chewie Chewie's diaper and Paulie too. It was so cute to watch him. He had to find the perfect diaper, his favorite one has Big Bird on it. This meant ALL the diapers had to come out and end up on the couch, where the diaper changing was happening.
We wash Kekoa's booty with water whenever he poops, so he was pretending to wash their booties and had the towel and everything. He would also go into the bathroom and pretend to put the poop in the toilet, pretend to flush, and then close the toilet lid! Wow, this is such progress from Kekoa actually putting everything in the toilet. I followed him into the bathroom, afraid that he was going to put the towel in the toilet, but nope, he was just pretending.

"poop poop mama"

Running to the bathroom to put the pretend poop in the toilet.

Paulie's turn.

reading

Kekoa really wants to read. Today he was making these gibberish sounds and I realized that this is Kekoa "reading". Just like when he first started to "count" he would make the same gibberish counting sounds, he is now making gibberish reading sounds. It is the cutest thing. He read for me while I was getting him ready for bed tonight and my heart was melting at how smart and how cute our little monkey is.

What started the reading tonight was this little magnet. It is from a winery in Napa. Kekoa wouldn't put this magnet down tonight and it inspired him to read! Go Kekoa!
I even found him in his room, before we took a bath, standing on his bed, looking out the window with the magnet, showing it the clouds.

I love how after Kekoa says "bye-bye" he also says "see you later"...how cute is that?
He knows the camera is on and is hamming it up...totally showing off.
