picnic

Lunch time is picnic time. Kekoa loves his picnics and it is a nice change from sitting in his chair.

"cheese" with a mouthful of sandwich.

Right after dinner

I love this moment of my day with Kekoa, right when he is done with dinner. I unbuckle him from his seat and he jumps into my lap for a snuggle. Sometimes this snuggle only lasts a few seconds but usually it lasts a few minutes. Tonight was an extra long snuggle. Kekoa rested his head on my shoulder and I sung him a few songs. He popped his head up and said, "Koa sleeping" and then rested his head on my other shoulder. Before he got down to play, he kissed each shoulder, then put a hand on each of my cheeks and gave me a huge kiss. It was the sweetest moment ever.

"coldy treat"

For the past two weeks, I have taken Kekoa to a midweek farmer's market, after he wakes up from his nap. It is so much fun to go somewhere now with Kekoa. He can walk, is so good about holding my hand and not running off, listens to directions, and really enjoys being out and about. The best thing about this farmer's market is the shave ice (Kekoa's "coldy treat"). I asked him today if he wanted to go to the market and get a "coldy treat". His face lit up with excitement.
He also loves going to the market and sampling all the food. Today he even tried a falafal, which he gobbled up. He has to try all the juicy strawberries ("zao mei") he sees and the grapes ("pu tao"). He is just tall enough to reach most of the tables and grab a sample.
There are plastic chairs for us to sit on and enjoy our shave ice. Kekoa remembered the Mickey Mouse chair from last week. I moved the chairs into the shade last week and he remembered. When he saw me pick up my chair, he picked up a blue chair for himself and waddled behind me. It was the cutest thing to watch him carrying his chair.
After we were done at the market, I asked him if he would like to go home and play or walk around some more. He replied, "walk". This was the favorite part of his afternoon "walking mama" (walking with mama).

There were the prettiest marigolds.

Kekoa was being "shy" and wouldn't turn around for a picture.

I had to tell him I saw a dog, which made him turn right around and then race off, in search of the dog.

Kekoa and his books

Kekoa is a little book worm. He LOVES reading, loves loves loves his books. I often find him either in his room or out in the living, sitting in the middle of a pile of books, with his nose in the one he is reading. Scott took him to the library today, which always gets him super jazzed about books. We know that we are so lucky that Kekoa keeps himself entertained with stories.

Freddy is his reading buddy. It is so cute when I find him in his bedroom, all cuddled up with Freddy, sharing a book with him.
Right now at bedtime, Kekoa's new favorite has changed from Dumbo and Freight Train, to "Cat in the Hat", Thomas goes Fishing, and a Truck Driver book. He thinks Cat in the Hat is "so funny mama". :)
Scott and I hope that Kekoa will always have this love for books.

Stories before bedtime. We almost always read books with Freddy before crawling into bed.

I peeked into Kekoa's room to find him reading with Freddy.

And tonight, after his shower, I went into the kitchen to finish cleaning up. He wanted to be "nunie" for a little while longer. When I came back in his room, he just melted my heart with his cuteness.

And here he is "reading" his Thomas book. He is retelling the whole story.

Van Gogh in the making

Today we headed over to Auntie Tina and Kasper's house for some finger painting. The boys weren't too sure they wanted to paint at first. We expected them to dive right in and love getting all painty, but it took them a bit to warm up to it. The mama's had to get their hands painty first. Once they figured out how much fun it was, they couldn't get enough. They were both holding out their hands, waiting for us to squeeze more paint directly onto their hands!
After the second masterpiece was made, Kekoa waved his hands and said "All done", just like that he was done.
Then it was time for some fun in the water.
Two little "nunies" in the pool=adorable!
Thank you for such a messy and wet afternoon!

Look at my hands mama...

The final masterpiece!

A little water time after a hard afternoon of painting.
