Happy Birthday Baba!

Today is Scott's birthday. What a great place to spend a birthday.
JoAnna had the day off today and took us to Elk Lake this morning. It was a gorgeous drive and the lake was just as beautiful. The lake is so close to Bend, only about 30 minutes away. There was no one else there this morning, but it gets packed on the weekends and there is free music.
We spent about an hour there and then headed back home for Kekoa to take a nap.

Kathy and Delilah. I love hearing Delilah call Kathy "sister", it is the sweetest thing. Delilah was so excited to have Kathy back from her trip.

Kekoa tries too! :)

For the evening festivities, we headed to Munchkin Music...a free music concert down at Drake Park. We packed up the cooler with our gourmet picnic (leftovers of last night's Mediterranean dinner) and drove on over. We got there early, good thing because it became really packed. Kekoa loved the music, he was dancing away.

Kekoa and Delilah rocking out to the music.

Kekoa loves Kathy!

L.O.V.E. the hands in the pocket!

"I run"

What do you think...did Kekoa have fun?

How about Delilah?

It was a little breezy and cool, so we headed back home for vanilla cake and vanilla bean ice cream.
Happy birthday Scott! We all love you so much. xoxo

Make a good wish...

The birthday boy with all the ladies. Kekoa wanted to be in the picture too. :)

The birthday boy with all the guys, Stanley too of course.

Stanley going in for some cake! Watch out!

Kekoa has become a climber on this trip. Here he is climbing up the bench.

Early Birthday Dinner

Tonight Paul outdid himself and cooked the most delicious Mediterranean feast for Scott's birthday. Tomorrow is the big day, but we had the special dinner tonight because tomorrow evening is another free music festival that we will check out. The food was so delicious; grilled lamb and chicken, homemade tabbouleh and this amazing rice pilaf, tzaziki sauce (which Kekoa could not get enough of), pita bread, and baklava for dessert. We all ate soooo much.
Thank you so much Paul for this delectable meal!

Kekoa can't decide what he wants to drink, milk or water?

High Desert Museum

Today we were on our own to explore beautiful Bend so we headed to the High Desert Museum this morning. It was such a cool museum. Kekoa loved it too, but was a little confused why he couldn't touch everything. He really wanted to get behind the ropes and climb on the old cars.
There was an outdoor trail that looped around to the river otter exhibit (they were all sleeping) and to the raptors (SO amazing). There were two bald eagles and all kinds of owls. Kekoa found many "gwun gwun" (sticks) on the trail and even jumped for the first time (both feet off the ground!)
We both got to pet a gopher snake, Kekoa was all smiles that he could touch it. There were tortoises that were chatting each other up and huge lizards. There was a running stream with a ton of rainbow trout in it. Kekoa was upset he couldn't pet the fish!
After spending a few hours at the museum, we headed to downtown for lunch at Cafe Yumm! The rice bowls there are so yummy. I wish they had these in California!
It is really nice to be on vacation and be able to spend so much time together. I wish every day could be vacation. :)

Checking out the fish.

Kekoa was trying so hard to hold onto both of these tree trunks at the same time.

Where's the Bald Eagle baba?

Over there...

Beach time

After Kekoa's nap, we headed down to the beach...a different sort of beach then we are used to, along the Deschutes River. The water was super chilly, but the kids didn't seem to mind at all. They had so much fun, digging in the sand and making soup and pasta! Kekoa actually fell in and fully submerged himself. It was super scary. I was standing with him and scooped him right up. He kept saying, "I fall", but didn't even cry or anything. I was probably more freaked out than he was, but played it cool, while my heart was pumping so fast!

After beach time, we headed to McMenamins for drinks. It is a really cool place and the kids had fun too, sitting in the big chairs drinking their "lemonade" (water). We are loving Bend...having a GREAT time!
