Sunday paper

Our neighbor downstairs was going to be gone this weekend and asked if we could pick up his newspaper for him. Scott had been reading it and it was stacked up on our living room floor. I came out of the bathroom this morning to find Kekoa also reading the paper! Any guess as to which pages he was so interested in? Not the cartoons, but the car section! There was an advertisement for a red sports car that he couldn't get enough of. He kept pointing to all the cars, saying "vroom vroom". It was adorable.

"vroom vroom"

off and playing with my cars...

Favorite time of day

When is my favorite time of day with Kekoa? That is a hard question to actually answer. It could be....

-When he first wakes up in the morning and has crawled onto me. If this doesn't get me to open my eyes, he plays with my lips and nose. I'll crack my eyes open and see him staring up at me, with a big grin on his face! I hear him say, "oh mama" or "Oh baba"...he always wakes up so happy!

-When I get to change his diaper. I know, you are probably thinking, what?? How could this be a favorite time of day? Well, I look at it as the perfect opportunity to squeeze Kekoa's super juicy thighs, I love his thighs, they are my favorite body part. (His ever growing round belly is slowly inching its way to first place though!) He also makes me laugh since he has discovered his "pee pee" a few months ago. Plus, after the diaper change is over, I always get a hug and kiss.

-When Kekoa eats. We have long conversations, dance, sing, read books, and/or play with his trucks during meal time. I love asking Kekoa questions and listening to his animated answers. I also love watching him eat, his cheeks full of food, his lips all poofy, his hands stuffing more food in his mouth. It is pretty funny! He has also been experimenting a lot with utensils. He knows they are for putting food in his mouth, but he thinks it is so much more fun to play with them, or to dump the food everywhere but in his mouth! Kekoa spends a lot of time in his high chair so I'm very happy it is so fun for him.

-When we are almost ready to leave the house. Kekoa gets to pick one toy, of appropriate size, to bring with him. If it was up to him, he would most definitely bring Paulie, his huge stuffed polar bear, or one of the biggest trucks he could find. I'll tell him to go pick out his toy and he waddles over to his toy box, squats over it, puts his hands to his chin, and says, "hmmmm"...I'm not kidding. It is hilarious! It is usually a little truck that he picks to bring with him, a different truck every time, but sometimes he will bring a little stuffed animal, which I think is the cutest.

-Going to the park. Every time we go to the park, it is so much fun to see what Kekoa will want to play on or where he will want to explore. It changes each time we go.

-Bathtime. Kekoa has so much fun in the bath, especially when it is a bubble bath. He loves playing with all the toys and he now knows which of his toys are bath toys and which are not. If the bath toys end up in the living room, he'll go and get them before his bath to make sure he has them to play with in the tub! Lately he has been using my legs as a "road" as he zooms his cars up and down, making a "vroom vroom" sound.

-Bedtime. Kekoa is so cute after his bath. He lays on top of his towel and talks away as I put on his diaper and his lotion. I'm usually singing him a song too, which he thinks is pretty funny. When he's all dressed in his pj's, I tell him in Chinese to go pick out a book. He waddles into the other room, picks out his book, and waddles back in with it as we settle on the bed to read his bedtime story. He also makes sure to say good-bye to all his toys. If he does have one of his bath toys and I ask him to put it away, he'll go into the bathroom and put it on the edge of the tub!! So smart! After the story or 2 or 3, he helps me turn off the lights, we say good night to everyone on the picture wall, and then snuggle in for sleep.

-Hmmm, so many choices, but actually I have to say my favorite time of day is when Kekoa wakes up from his nap. He is just super sweet and cuddly. He either curls up into me or crawls on me as he "wakes up slow". I love rubbing his back and giving him lots of kisses. I'll sing him some songs, which makes him smile. This is the last time Kekoa is super relaxed like this until bedtime, so I let him wake up as slow as he wants! It is so nice to just lay with him...a little relaxation before we are on the go again. When he's really ready to get up, he points to the window, to pull open the shade (cock-a-doodle-doo time). We let in the light and either get up out of bed or stay in bed a little bit longer to read some stories or just cuddle some more. Hmmm, yes, this is my favorite time.

Is there something on my head?

Scott gave Kekoa a new hat in the tub...a big, fluffy, white bubble hat!
We were laughing so hard but Kekoa couldn't figure out why. I showed him the picture of himself after I took it, he didn't think it was so funny.

A few bubbles to get started...

I love this picture because Kekoa has no idea that there are so many bubbles on his head. He's just so content playing.

Watch you lookin' at Willis?
The new and improved bubble hat...

R & R

Yesterday was a fabulous afternoon for Scott and I. My mom came to watch Kekoa and we got to have some much needed time together. We hadn't gone on a date since my birthday, way back in October!! The weather was super gloomy and freezing, but we still wanted to go to Santa Cruz, have some sushi and check out the waves. It was the perfect choice because once we drove over the hill, the clouds parted and it was a good 10 degrees warmer! We actually had to put on our sunglasses!
We went to our favorite sushi place, Pink Godzilla and filled our bellies with delicious food and hot sake. It was so nice to take our time, talk, and reconnect. We waddled out, bellies full and feeling a bit tipsy, and headed down to the East Cliff. We had a nice walk along the cliffs, watching the surf and all the surfers who were out enjoying the big waves.
Before heading home, we drove over to West Cliff and watched the bright orange sun, set into the ocean...what a treat and the perfect way to end our date. The best part was being greeted when we got home...our little monkey ran into both of our arms! :)
Time together is very precious, but it is really wonderful to come to Kekoa.

our big boy and his little truck

Last Sunday, it was just horribly rainy, rained all day. We all tried to keep busy inside. I was in the kitchen and heard Kekoa saying, "mama, mama, mama" in his please help me voice. (Mama also means help, depending on the tone) I came out to see him trying to sit down in his little tiny dump truck. It was sooo hilarious. He was so frustrated and didn't understand why he couldn't get into it. Funny how he has no sense of scale at all! :)
